Is your carpet suitable?
Carpet and underlay slow the movement of heat into the room, so their combined thermal resistance must remain within the heating manufacturer's limit. We check both products together rather than approving the carpet by appearance or material alone.
Some highly insulating carpets and underlays can restrict how effectively heat reaches the room. Send us the carpet and underlay specifications before ordering and we will check their combined thermal resistance.

How the job goes
How the system is installed
The subfloor is checked for level, dryness and stability before the insulation is laid. Pre-sized Ecofilm elements are positioned only in the clear floor area and must not run beneath permanently fixed furniture or be folded, shortened or overlapped.
The protective layer and approved carpet build-up are installed above the film. A qualified electrician connects the thermostat and fused supply, tests the system and records the electrical readings before the floor is closed.
Comfort and control
A floor sensor limits the surface temperature while the programmable thermostat controls when the room is heated. Because carpet insulates the floor, response time depends on the combined carpet-and-underlay tog rating and the heat loss of the room.
Can it heat the whole room?
A 130W/m² element may meet the room's heating demand in a well-insulated property, but this must be established with a heat-loss calculation. Available heated floor area, insulation, glazing and room exposure all affect the result.
Where it must not be installed
The Ecofilm product described on this page is not earthed and is not suitable for bathrooms or other wet areas. It must also remain clear of fixed objects that trap heat. Ask us to check the room layout if any area is uncertain.

Common questions
Can underfloor heating go under a carpet?
Yes, provided the combined thermal resistance of the carpet and underlay stays within the heating manufacturer's limit. We check the two together before quoting.
How much does the floor level rise?
The exact increase in floor height depends on the insulation specified for your subfloor and the approved carpet-and-underlay combination above it. We include the complete finished build-up with the quotation.
Which underlay should I avoid?
Some highly insulating carpets and underlays can restrict how effectively heat reaches the room. Send us the specifications for both products and we will check their combined thermal resistance before quoting.
Can it be the only heating in the room?
Only where a heat-loss calculation shows the available heated floor area can meet the demand of the room. We work that out rather than assume it.

Not this product. The Ecofilm element described here is not earthed and must not be installed in a bathroom or any other wet area.
